The Medal of Honor ~ Strange Oddities

In 1863, the nation's first Medal of Honor was awarded.  Since then, more than 3,400 have
been issued for acts of bravery and heroism, “above and beyond the call of duty”.  In a few
instances, however, the medal was awarded for rather unique, strange, and less than
glorious reasons.  This program discusses those instances.

    Hear the true story of:

    •        A “Civilian” who was awarded this “Military” award.

    •        A  Naval officer who was awarded the medal during “peacetime”.

    •        An Army officer who was awarded the medal, 30 years after he committed a
             “military blunder”.

    •        The medal issued for, “32 years of meritorious service”.

    •        The award issued to more than 600 soldiers, who performed the same “non-
             heroic” feat.

    •        The 29 funeral “pall bearers” who were awarded the Medal of Honor performing
             funeral services.
